The Split City Puppet Theatre was established on 8 March 1945 as The Pioneer Puppet Theatre.The first premiere was adaptation of the Russian story The Green Hill. It was on 2 August 1945. The first theatre director was Mirko Božić who in two years set the repertoire that has been cherished by Split puppeteers until today. Many diligent employees of the Split City Puppet Theatre as well as famous names on theatre, literary and art scene have given their contribution to the development of puppetry in Split.The Split City Puppet Theatre has become a solid and inevitable spot on Croatian puppetry map. It has been confirmed by numerous performances at festivals in Croatia and abroad and awards won by the theatre ensemble. However, the greatest award has always been the public who has been coming to the theatre for decades, looking forward to its performances. |
